They'll be loaded from the "char" folder that comes with the game now. If you'd like to disable a custom character, add a ! as the first character of the folder name they're in. For example, "!fish" would not be loaded, but "fish" would. Def has kindly provided an example character (who I'm playing as in the video) and instructions on how to make custom characters.
